Shelly Haywood
University of Arizona Women's Golf, Assistant Coach

Shelly Haywood is the newest member of the University of Arizona coaching staff, having been named women's golf assistant coach on Sept. 3, 2004.

A two-time All-Big West conference selection at New Mexico State, Haywood is a member of the LPGA's Teaching and Club Professional Division and USGA Women's Amateur Public Links Committee, and an honorary member of the Arizona Golf Association's Bored of Governors. She is actively involved in supporting and donating to the Tucson junior golf community. She was a multi-sport athlete in high school, lettering in Volleyball, Basketball and Softball.

Now in her second year of coaching, she is a Finalist for the LPGA's Coach of the Year to be announced in October 2005 and was nominated for NGCA's Assistant Coach of the Year in her first year.

An accomplished player and teacher, Haywood was a member of the West Coast Ladies Tour from 2002-04. In 2004, she also earned two top ten finishes in the Colorado Women's Open and the Nevada Women's Open. Since moving to Tucson in 1993 she has worked alongside her husband Michael Haywood, the PGA Director of Golf, at Tucson Country Club.

Coaching is not new to Haywood as she previously served as the head girls golf coach at Tucson's Rincon High School, where she led the team to a third place finish at the state championship in her first year as coach. She enjoys cycling, working out, traveling with her husband and spending time with their two cats. She would eventually like to compete in a triathlon.

Haywood is a graduate of New Mexico State University, earning a degree in Professional Golf Management with a minor in exercise physiology.
